About these D&H DVDs

The Delaware and Hudson Canal Company was established in 1823 to mine the anthracite coal resources in the Lackawanna and Wyoming Valleys of Pennsylvania and to market that coal in New York City. An integral component of the transportation system that the D&H created to transport that coal to market was the Gravity Railroad that the company established between Carbondale and Honesdale. In order to meet market needs for anthracite coal, which increased dramatically in the course of the nineteenth century, the D&H established five different configurations of that Gravity Railroad between 1829 and 1899. The first five volumes in this series are about those five configurations. The other volumes in this D&H series are about different aspects of the D&H transportation between the anthracite mines in the Lackawanna and Wyoming Valleys of Pennsylvania and the Hudson River and the markets throughout the East for that coal. This series of volumes on the D&H, in which there are hundreds of photographs and maps, is the most detailed and comprehensive history ever written about the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company in the nineteenth century. Each volume is a separate DVD, presented as a pdf file. To read each volume, insert the DVD in your computer and scroll thorough the file.
